Oil goes on first. Shampoo comes after, to wash it out. That one order is what most people ask us about, and getting it wrong is one of the easiest ways to waste a good oil.
Here is the full routine, step by step, and the mistakes we see most often.
Why oil comes before shampoo
Oil needs time on the scalp. It has to sit on the roots for a few hours so you can massage it in and give it a chance to work. If you shampoo first and then oil, you either sleep with greasy hair for days or wash the oil straight back out before it has done anything.
Shampoo has a different job. It cleans the scalp and lifts the oil out, so your hair feels fresh again and the scalp is clear for the next oiling.
So the order is simple. Oil first, shampoo after, conditioner at the end.
The routine, step by step
- Part your hair into sections and apply oil to the scalp and roots, not just the lengths.
- Massage it in with your fingertips in small circles for a few minutes.
- Leave it on for 2 to 3 hours, or overnight.
- Wet your hair fully with lukewarm water.
- Massage shampoo into the scalp for 2 to 3 minutes, then rinse.
- Follow with a conditioner.
- Repeat 3 to 4 nights a week.
How long to leave the oil on
At least 2 to 3 hours. Overnight is fine too. It fits easily into the evening, and you wash it out in the morning. What does not work is applying oil and washing it out ten minutes later. At that point it has barely touched the roots.
Mistakes that make the routine fail
Using too much oil. You need enough to cover the scalp, not to soak the hair. More oil only means more washing, and it doesn't work any faster.
Washing with very hot water. Lukewarm water lifts the oil just as well and is kinder to the scalp, especially in winter when the air is already drying it out.
Skipping conditioner. A herbal shampoo cleans well, and a few customers told us their scalp felt dry or a little itchy when they left out the conditioner. Use one every wash.
Oiling only the ends. Hair fall starts at the root. The oil has to reach the scalp.
Giving up after a week. Hair fall slows first and growth comes later. Give the routine a full 4 weeks before you judge it.
Which products we use for each step
For the oil step, RYP Herbal Hair Oil is four ingredients and nothing else: mustard oil, coconut oil, castor oil and black seeds. Used 3 to 4 nights a week, most people see about 50% less hair fall in 4 weeks, with new growth usually visible around week 7.
For the wash step, RYP Herbal Hair Shampoo is made with amla, aritha and shikakai, herbal and without harmful chemicals. Most people notice stronger, shinier hair in about 3 weeks.
They are made to be used together, which is why we also sell them as the Hair Fall Routine Kit. You can order either one at rypproduct.com or on WhatsApp at +92 334 183 4483.
If you follow the routine properly for 4 weeks and see no change, tell us. We will explain why or help you find the product that fits better.
